This summer if you’re looking to head to the beach, you really don’t have to go too far. New Jersey has many fantastic beach towns that are perfect for vacations, long weekends or even day trips.

If you’re looking for a new beach town to check out this summer, try one of these!

While Asbury Park is a thriving town throughout the year, it really comes alive in the summer. The beach is a big draw, of course, but Asbury Park has great restaurants, shopping, and a fun little downtown area that visitors love. Asbury Park also hosts several festivals, including Oysterfest.

Cape May

Located at the southern tip of New Jersey, Cape May has long been a popular beach destination. But, with its large number of Victorian buildings, it sets itself apart from many beachside communities. With lots to do for visitors of all ages, you won’t be bored when you visit Cape May.

Margate

From Memorial Day to Labor Day you will find the beaches of Margate filled with happy visitors. Margate also has a lot of excellent fishing and attracts sport fishermen hoping to catch the “big one.” If fishing is not your thing, you can go shopping or even walk through the Margate Farmers’ Market to pick up some things for dinner.

Ocean City

Billing itself as “America’s Family Resort,” Ocean City is definitely a great place to visit in the summer. The beach is fantastic, and kids love spending time on the boardwalk and riding the Ferris wheel. There are also plenty of bike rental shops so you can pedal your way around Ocean City – maybe even to an ice cream shop!

Ocean Grove

Ocean Grove has a superb beach, but the charming town is what truly makes this place special. In the summer Ocean Grove hosts arts and crafts festivals and flea markets that are fun to check out. They also offer a great historical walking tour and have some fantastic music at the Great Auditorium.

Point Pleasant

Mini golf, skee ball, and the aquarium make Point Pleasant a summertime family destination. Of course, those aren’t the only reasons to head to this beachside town. Antiquers love to hunt for treasures here, and there is some excellent charter fishing if you’re looking to go out on the ocean.

Long Beach Island

Not exactly a town, but more of a destination – Long Beach Island screams summer. Definitely take the time to visit Barnegat Lighthouse State Park when you are on Long Beach Island, commonly known as LBI. The nature trails are fantastic, and you can hike to the top of the lighthouse before heading to grab lunch in one of the many delicious restaurants.

Spring Lake

Spring Lake is a small beach town filled with lots of charm. Located just a few miles from Asbury Park, Spring Lake offers a more tranquil beach getaway and prides itself on clean beaches and some fantastic restaurants. Stay in one of the many inns for a romantic getaway!

Seaside Heights

If you like lots of hustle and bustle and plenty to do, then Seaside Heights is for you. Beaches, fireworks, concerts and much more happen throughout the summer months. Kids will love Casino Pier, and you’ll enjoy tasting all of the classic New Jersey foods.

Belmar

Belmar is famous for its beach playgrounds which are tons of fun for children. For older visitors, you’ll find beaches where you can kayak, surf, boogie board, or even play a game of beach volleyball. Beach tags are a must here – so make sure you have yours with you at all times!
